Movie's #83-86- Alien Quadrilogy
The crew of a commercial deep space mining ship, investigating a suspected S.O.S., lands on a distant planet and discovers a nest of strange eggs. One of these eggs hatch and the alien inside attaches itself to one of the crew members, which leads to disastrous consequences for everyone.
The alien in these films is a highly aggressive extraterrestrial creature that stalks and hunts like an animal. It stars Sigourney Weaver as Ripley.
From the brilliant mind of Ridley Scott, Alien is terrifying and disgusting and is a true horror. Although it's quite slow in the build up, its much appreciated when it gets to the famous chest burster scene, which remains to this day one of the most horrible things I have ever seen in film. Once we reach this point in the film, there is no slowing down, it goes at lightning speed and doesn't stop to catch its breath, Alien is exciting and nightmare inducing, you will not sleep after watching it.
Aliens saw a new director, James Cameron take the helm and he didn't dissapoint. It follows Weaver's character Ripley as she returns to the planet where her crew encountered the hostile Alien creature, this time accompanied by a group of Marines.
I enjoy this one slightly more than the first, due to the fact that Aliens' focus was more action-adventure in contrast to the horror motifs of the original Alien, however the creatures are still present which means a guarantee of bloody, horrible deaths.
Alien 3 is directed by David Fincher and sees the return of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley. The story begins with an ejected pod from the spaceship Sulaco in Aliens crash-landing on a prison-run planet, killing everyone aboard except Ripley. Unknown to Ripley, an Alien egg was aboard the ship. It is born in the prison and begins a killing spree. Again, I love this one, I can only say a certain amount of times 'It's good, I recommend it.' So I'll try and stop, what you need to know is that the character of Ripley goes down in the books as a great heroine of cinema thanks to Alien 3. Although it doesn't quite deliver like the previous two, it's a great stand alone film, but only an okay sequel.
Alien Resurrection is set 200 years after the events of Alien 3, Ripley is cloned and an Alien queen is surgically removed from her body. The United Systems Military hopes to breed Aliens to study and research on the spaceship USM Auriga, using human hosts kidnapped and delivered to them by a group of mercenaries. The Aliens escape their enclosures, while Ripley and the mercenaries attempt to escape and destroy the Auriga before it reaches Earth.
I don't know why they made a fourth one, money? Probably, I like the fourth one, its certainly better than the third one in my opinion but is no where near as good as the first two. This film however brought new life to the franchise with a great script and fantastic action.
