Movie #77- Battleship
NASA discover a planet with similar conditions to Earth which they call Planet G, they transmit a signal from Hawaii to Planet G to see if they 'are not alone'. Meanwhile Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is forced into the navy- because he's screwing up his life- by his big brother Stone Hopper (Alexander Skarsgard) who's a Commander in the US Pacific Fleet. Their ships join a training exercise, during this five alien spacecraft arrive in response to the NASA signal. Their communications ship crashes in Hong Kong, while four others land in the water near Hawaii. Three destroyers - two have Alex and Stone on - are trapped in some kind of alien force field and must find a way to take the alien ships out before they do more damage to the rest of the world. Loosely based on the boardgame. It also stars Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna.
I love this film and like 'The Darkest Hour' it wasn't well received but I don't care! Taylor Kitsch brings this movie life and charm, he's really funny and light hearted which we as an audience haven't seen before but when it comes down to the emotion he's flawless. I love the aliens in Battleship, they're different to other alien films, which is always good and I was pleasantly surprised by Rihanna's performance in her first feature, I wasn't expecting much but I think she did a great job. This film is a good blend of action and humour, with great special effects and an amazing cast, I love it!
