Movie's #79-81- Jurassic Park Trilogy
John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), CEO of InGen, has created Jurassic Park, a theme park on a remote island inhabited by dinosaurs, created by their DNA extracted from insects preserved in prehistoric amber. In order to please his investors Hammond invites Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neil) and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) to come to the park and approve it, while Hammond's Lawyer invites mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), the three of them are joined by Hammond's grandchildren Lex and Tim. Jurassic Park's chief computer programmer, Dennis Nedry, secretly employed by one of InGen's corporate rivals, steals dinosaur embryos. During the theft, Nedry deactivates the park's security system, allowing him access to the embryo storage. The park's electric fences are deactivated as a result, so while on their tour around the park the group are attacked by a T-Rex, causing Alan and the kids to be split up from the rest of the group, the story then goes on to show how they find their way back while trying to avoid dinosaurs.
This film is just an instant classic, my favourite Spielberg film thats constantly keeping you on your toes, I'm a bit of a dinosaur freak and for a while - thanks to Jurassic Park- I wanted to be a Paleontologist until I realised you have to be good at science, which I am certainly not. I think everyone is fascinated a little bit by dinosaurs which makes Jurassic Park such a great film, it truly makes you wish that you could see a dinosaur, I mean a fleshy one not just bones, because come on who hasn't been to the natural history museum and seen a T-Rex fossil? Right, or is that just me being a nerd? Anyway, back to my point, despite this film being pretty scary thanks to the some characters being eaten it really does make me feel like a kid again, in some weird ass way. Everyone should see this film.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park see's the return of Ian Malcom four years after the events of Jurassic Park, dinosaurs have secretly survived and been allowed to roam free on a deserted island. Hammond sees a chance to redeem himself for his past mistakes and sends an expedition led by Dr. Ian Malcolm to reach the island before InGen's team (which is now no longer under Hammond's control) can get there. The two groups confront each other in the face of extreme danger and must team up for their own survival.
Not as good as the first, this one's a bitt grittier and darker, the addition of Julianne Moore was a welcome surprise, as Malcom's girlfriend making him more likable in this one compared to the cocky, arrogant one we saw in Jurassic Park. This one is a good sequel to the first, it moves away from the original but keeps the fast paced action and suspense that made the first great.
Jurassic Park 3 takes place on Isla Sorna, the island from the second film, after a divorced couple tricks Dr. Alan Grant into helping them find their son. I can't actually decide if I like 2 or 3 more because they're both too good, but having Sam Neil back in as Alan Grant for the third film gives this one a bit of an edge.
The thing I like about these films is that their stories are all so different, even the dinosaurs that each film focuses on. This Trilogy should be owned by everyone, some of Spielberg's best work. A fantastic world to be sucked into for a few hours.
